Water Damage Restoration

Toxic mould is fast becoming the replacement for asbestos in indoor air quality concerns, as more and more people are being affected. However the solution is simple, fast, effective, water damage restoration by a highly trained reputable team of professionals.

In most jobs we have two IICRC trained technicians doing the work. This means the job is completed faster and more efficiently.

The system we use is divided into two sections Mitigation and Restoration.

Mitigation

  • Make it safe. Check for hazards, such as electrical, plumbing, slipping and structural.
  • Minimise the risk of further damage. Eliminate source, move and protect furnishings and items, extract water, may include beginning of drying process. Make the area safe.
  • Determine the scope and extent of damage, to ascertain whether restoration is cost effective.

Restoration

  • If restoration is the option, we consult interested parties,
  • Prepare estimate and review alternatives.
  • If at any stage during restoration we feel that the result will not be satisfactory. We terminate pending instruction.

If restoration is the option, the carpet is deodorised and treated in with an anti-microbial deodorant and an anti – browning solution. It is then dried, using various methods depending on the situation. Once the carpet has been relayed the cleaning process begins.

Do's and Don’ts if your Home or Office is Flooded
1.      Do:

  1. ensure that a contractor has been called to eliminate or repair the water source
  2. if safe to do so, turn off circuit breakers supplying electricity to wet areas; unplug and remove any small electrical devices currently located on the wet carpet
  3. remove small furniture items as possible, to prevent rust or stains & expedite restoration.
  4. place aluminium foil under legs of wood furniture (especially antiques)
  5. hang draperies and pin up furniture skirts to prevent contact with wet carpet (water marks, browning, dye transfer or migration)
  6. remove books, shoes, paper goods, fabrics, potted plants, or other items that may stain the carpet (check especially under beds and in closets for these items)
  7. remove and secure breakables, moisture sensitive or high-value items
  8. make plans for restoration crew to remove large furniture items onto dry carpet, vinyl, ceramic, or wood flooring, or garage or storage areas
  9. wash your hands thoroughly after handling wet items

 2.      Do not:

  • use any type home vacuum since electrical shock may result, as well as potential damage to the equipment itself
  • place newspaper in the traffic areas, since newspaper ink transfers easily
  • walk on wet carpet any more than necessary in order to keep from spreading damage.
  • do not activate the HVAC system if it is has been directly contacted by water, or might serve as a means of spreading contamination
  • increase indoor temperature unless instructed to do so by qualified restoration technician
  • in sewage losses, do not:
    • handle directly contaminated items
    • consume foods or use personal hygiene items that were left out in contaminated areas
    • turn on fans to circulate air or use any vacuum equipment
    • stay in the property if occupants:
      • have respiratory problems including allergies and asthma
      • are under age 2 or over age 60
      • have a weakened immune system due to illness, medication, or recent surgery
